The Devil

Two chained figures stand before a horned figure; the chains around their necks are loose enough to lift off.
Keywords: attachment, habit, temptation, shadow
Upright: energy in motion
Notice what has a hold on you. Naming a pattern is the first step toward loosening it. Read this as a possibility rather than a promise. Ask where this quality is already visible, what supports it, and what an appropriately sized next action would be.
Reversed: energy asking for attention
Chains starting to loosen. You are seeing the pattern and choosing freedom. A reversal does not automatically mean disaster. It can point to delay, excess, avoidance, inward expression, or a strength that needs a healthier boundary.
What wants to move
This card is not a label placed on you. It is a way to notice what feeds the present situation, what wants to move, and where too much or too little is creating friction.
Questions to carry
- Where is the clearest expression of this card in my present situation?
- What am I treating as fixed that may still be responsive?
- What would balance look like in one observable action?
- Which part of the message does not fit—and what does that tell me?
A grounded practice
Write one sentence that begins “Right now I notice…” and a second that begins “The next kind step is…”. Keep the language concrete. The card is useful when it returns agency to you, not when it replaces judgment.
